What is Emmi-Pet and how does it work?
The basic principles
Ultrasonic teeth cleaning treatment uses sonic waves to penetrate under plaque on the teeth or gums. The waves create micro bubbles which loosen plaque also can get into the gaps that bacteria like to hide in. This is a preventative treatment to be used in conjunction with regular brushing at home, repeat visits for treatment and vet dental checks. It will not cure existing damage or decay. Dogs react well to the toothbrush as it does not vibrate or feel odd in their mouths.
Initial visit
This treatment includes a health check and photographs of the teeth. Next, the dog is introduced to the toothpaste and then to the tooth brush. A session of cleaning is performed whilst the dog is with us to build trust and to know that the treatment is not painful. Toothpaste and finger toothbrush sent home to use.
Follow up sessions
Each session lasts twenty minutes and includes a teeth health check plus a session of emmi pet sonic toothbrush. Once completed we observe changes in the teeth and gums and remove dislodged plaque. These sessions are weekly but could also be daily. We check on the progress of the teethbrushing at home using the Emmi Pet toothpaste. Familiarisation with the toothpaste and having fingers in their mouth helps to desensitise.
